1, Introduction of the vermiculite
Vermiculite, chemical formula M g × (H2O) [Mg3 × (AlSiO3O10) (H2O)], is a magnesium water inclouded aluminum silicate secondary metamorphic minerals of layered
structure. It likes mica in form, and usually come from weathered or hydrothermal alterated black (gold ) Mica. It will present a deflection shape after heat expansion and
water loss, liking a leech pattern in form ,so it gets the name vermiculite .

5,Features of the vermiculite
1). Physical appearance
Vermiculite refers to a small group of minerals resembling the lamella structure of the micas.It is dark gray brown to golden brown in color and flake-shaped when dry. When heated to intense temperatures vermiculite expands in volume and its lamellae separate,and thus exfoliate
2). Moisture retention
The space created by exfoliation trap moisture.Ideal for horticultural applications, vermiculite has the capacity to retain several times its weight in water.
3). Air circulation
Vermiculite flakes are irregular in shape allowing better air circulation when exfoliated, .Widely used in horticulture to aerate soil mixes or for hydroponic cultures.
4). Low density
Exfoliation cause a great increase in volume without an increase in mass.Being extremely lightweight,vermiculite is an ideal material to lighten aggregates such as
concrete,plaster,and asphalt,and to fill walls and partitions Inert and neutral PH:8-11
