Expanded Clay Filter Media for Biofiltration
Expanded Clay (Light Weight Expanded Clay Aggregate, Expanded clay pebbles) is made from 100% natural clay at average 1200 degree in rotary kiln,
the Yielding gases are expanded by thousands of small bubbles as long as this temperature and porosity will appear by many voids and honeycombs
at these round shape aggregates when melted materials become cold.

Expanded Clay Application:
Expanded Clay is successfully used for water filtration and for wastewater purification, often associated with sand in dual media filtration systems.
Because:
- it provides a large surface area for filtration.
- it provides ideal conditions for development of the biofilm (consisting mainly of bacterial colonies) in which the process of biological purification actually takes place.
- its durability. For all practical purposes, expanded clay is an everlasting material that does not rot, does not degrade over time, and resists acids, bases, solvents, and freeze/thaw cycles with no chemical or physical alteration.
- it is extremely easy to lay and maintain because of its lightness and its suitability for pumping.
- its low and controlled density means that pump filters are easy to clean (by backwashing) thereby enabling pumps of lower power to be used.

Hydroponics Aquaponics | LECA is chemically neutral and ensures air penetration to plant roots. At the same time, fungal spores, bacteria and insect pests are avoided. |
Insulation | LECA is used for making solid blocks and hollow blocks of lightweight concrete. |

Roof Gardens | Bulk LECA particle can be used in roof gardens for drainage purposes and for constructing and eliminating slopes. |
Structural Concrete | LECA as the aggregate, structural concrete can be fabricate in strengths of up 45Mpa and the density is less than 1950kg/M3. |
