International trade is important because it allows countries to sell more of what they can produce in exchange for what they may lack or not have at all, to promote economic sufficiency.

In periods of particular international trade tension, such as now, with importing tariffs increasing, producing countries lose demand whilst buying countries see their importing costs rise. International trade agreements are therefore vital because they dissipate the tensions in the market for goods.
