On a subject like this I always like to start with the concept and then explain the answer.

The concept of globalization has a great deal of merit and reality wrapped up in it and most of the time people tend to get confused on the concept of globalization and the reality of policies that have been implemented to support the concept.

The concept is that trade between nations in the modern era is not only feasible but desirable in terms of overall trade and commerce and that modern communication technologies and transport and logistic capabilities make it possible for larger markets for more and more companies and people to participate.

It will be a great generator of employment which also helps to resolve issues of poverty in some nations and in general will aid consumers in the availability of more products and services at more competitive prices.

In terms of geopolitical relationships between nations, in conceptual terms, it should help build better relationships as more nations find reasons to relate with one another and have mutual interests that can help to build these relationships.

That in general is the concept and in general terms with the exception of folks who are very far from center on this issue, is a concept that is acceptable and worthy of pursuing, and that is also the case for most conservatives that are not on the far right.

But, we have to come to the reality of how this concept has been implemented and more importantly how it has been functioning globally and for each nation, it is necessary to understand how the implementation of the concept is benefiting it or proving to be less beneficial and producing disadvantages.

So, conservatives are more realistic on this point in my experience than those on the Left and for certain most socialists.

Globalization has been primarily implemented through various political agreements and more often than not, is based on trade agreements between nations.

That requires therefore close and serious scrutiny of these agreements as they are being negotiated and even more importantly, once they have been implemented.

Conservatives are also more concerned with whether or not these agreements are producing beneficial results within their countries especially once they have been in place for long enough to have a reasonable amount of data to base an analysis on.

Socialist tend to have a view a bit more liberal on this issue and will make policy decisions and trade agreements for reasons that can be seen to be more in support of a socialist or Leftist agenda overall and at times will sacrifice a positive beneficial aspect of the concept of globalization in order to advance some part of their overall agenda.

Capitalist societies generally will not make those same types of considerations and tend to be more interested in economic benefit over most other benefits that one might expect from a trade agreement or a political agreement.

America more than most other nations tends to move close to center when it comes to economic issues no matter how far from center various policy makers take the country during various political cycles.

Recently, we have seen various trade and political agreements that form a large part of the implementation of the concept of globalization come into question as to the economic and political results in many nations and the overwhelming decision certainly by Americans, British and other nations is that many of these agreements have not produced the economic or political benefits desirable and have taken it to their citizens via the ballot box.

As part of his election campaign President Trump pushed hard on these points and they became a major factor in his election.

The British leaders took this in similar fashion to a referendum to the citizens on leaving the EU and the result is what is now termed Brexit.

Other nations are doing the same, some on trade issues and others on political issues.

Does that mean that globalization is bad or dead even?

Not at all. What it does mean is that globalization has now been in operation long enough to enable serious scrutiny of what it has produced via the policies and agreements that have enabled it and some nations have concluded that those agreements and policies need to be adjusted to bring the concept of globaliztion more in line with what has to be in any relationship— some level of equilibrium and balance.

That is the secret to whether or not a conservative will decide to be for or against something like globalization or not.

If you really want to know if an American conservative is for or against globalization all you have to do is watch how elections go and you will have a pretty good idea of just where American conservatives view how it has been implemented and whether or not they see it beneficial or in your words— For it.
