What is Expanded Clay ?

Expanded clay, also known as LECA (lightweight expanded clay aggregate), are formed from small round balls of clay which are heat treated, causing them to expand and become porous and are among the most popular grow media today. They are completely sterile and inert with a neutral pH. They can be sterilized, flushed and re-used and provide good root support, great drainage and aeration.

Expanded clay granules are ideal for use in landscape gardening because they offer the following benefits:
