Application of kaolin in plastics industry
Kaolin is used as filler in plastics industry. Its function is to make the surface smooth, reduce the thermal cracking and shrinkage, and is conducive to polishing, size accuracy, chemical resistance and so on. The addition of kaolin in plastics ranges from 15% to 60%. In PVC manufacturing, using kaolin as a supplement, it makes plastic more durable, calcining and partially calcined kaolin as filler in PVC wire insulator, can increase the adsorption and surface activity, the conductive plastic residual ion adsorption, the electrical insulation to improve, increase the resistivity of calcined kaolin by from 7% to 8% weight added to the polyethylene film, can enhance the infrared absorption characteristics.

The treated kaolin becomes a successful filler and improves mechanical, electrical, and thermal properties of nylon, polyester and other plastics. In the manufacture of glass fiber reinforced polyester, kaolin added flow properties can solve the problem of large products, can make the car body and the hull, because kaolin can produce a higher strength and more uniform. In addition, in some plastic systems, kaolin can improve dispersibility when trimming the surface.

After surface modification of calcined kaolin is mainly for special purposes the following:

(1) in the plastic part instead of expensive resin, thereby reducing the cost of plastic products;

(2) using its excellent electrical insulation properties, can be used as PVC polyethylene insulated wire wrapping;

(3) can be used as functional fillers. Such as calcination after adding 40% in high density polyethylene modified kaolin, the tensile strength is 2.1 * 107Pa, the elongation is 60%, also can be used as nucleating agent of polypropylene film, manufacturing printing paper review materials used in polystyrene based, improve the optical properties of the paper and opacity;

(4) instead of titanium dioxide do white pigment.
