    Colloidal silica allows for greater intricacy of design, and its high temperature tolerance and chemical inertness makes it useful for binding a wide variety of refractory materials for the casting of many metals and alloys.  Products cast in this way include turbine blades for aerospace engines; turbines and turbo fans; components for the automotive industry, weapons manufacturers, and household appliacances; and medical implants and instruments.
