1). Physical appearance

Vermiculite refers to a small group of minerals resembling the lamella structure of the micas.It is dark gray brown to golden brown in color and flake-shaped when dry.When heated to intense temperatures vermiculite expands in volume and its lamellae separate,and thus exfoliate

2). Moisture retention

The space created by exfoliation trap moisture.Ideal for horticultural applications, vermiculite has the capacity to retain several times its weight in water.

3). Air circulation

Vermiculite flakes are irregular in shape allowing better air circulation when exfoliated, .Widely used in horticulture to aerate soil mixes or for hydroponic cultures.

4). Low density

Exfoliation cause a great increase in volume without an increase in mass.Being extremely lightweight,vermiculite is an ideal material to lighten aggregates such as concrete,plaster,and asphalt,and to fill walls and partitions Inert and neutral PH:8-11

4.Vermiculite usage in agricuture :

Seedbed covers:
Vermiculite is Very light and easy-to-handle, vermiculite is often used as seedbed cover to protect seeds while retaining water and fertilizers needed for their development.
Hydroponic systems and greenhouses:
Studies have shown that vermiculite produces excellent results in greenhouse cultures and hydroponic systems. Exfoliated vermiculite is perfectly adapted for water and fertilizer retention, and to help maintain optimal conditions for the development of any type of culture.
Multicellular germination:
Time is money, as goes the saying. Applied as a thin surface layer in your plug trays, vermiculite will enhance germination while letting you keep control.
Cutting and root growth:
Vermiculate leaves enough space for roots to grow rapidly while providing essential elements for their development. Include vermiculite in your cutting and rooting strategies.
Potting and planting out:
Vermiculite’s low density lightens beds and pots in which it is used, an undeniable advantage for handling and transportation of your cultures. Moreover, its intrinsic qualities help lessens the transition shock.
Use in soil mixes:
We all want to reduce transportation costs. So it is no surprise that vermiculite is widely used to lighten the texture of soil mixes or peat moss, and help maintain optimal development conditions.
Pesticides, herbicides and fertilizers:
Since vermiculite can absorb several times its weight in water, it becomes an important transportation vector for all pesticides, herbicides and fertilizers, making them much easier to handle and to spread.
