As magnesium hydeoxide has such characteristic as:buffering performance ,big activity,strong adsorption capacity,no corrosion,security,innocuity and being harmless,it was widely applied in water treatment system in tecent years.The heavy metal in sewage has big toxicity and can not be easily metabolized in environment and the heavy metal can be easily concentrated by biology and be expanded along the biological chain,so it can cause serious harm to environment.Magnesium hydroxide has big surface area,strong adsorption and big solubility product,which is bigger than common metal;besides sorption,magnesium hydroxide can also generate deposition due to metathesis if magnesium hydroxide is used to remove heavy metalion.
The study shows that magnesium hydroxide can not only neutralize acids in waste water,but aslo form deposition with Cu,Fe,Cr(111),Pb and Zn ions in waste water and can further clean out these ions through sorption of magenesium hydroxide so it can completely remove these ions, Magnesium hydroxide can also partially remove Ni and Cd ions.
Magnesium Hydroxide Flame Retardant
Along with the development of polymers industry,synthetic materials like plastic,rubber and fiber are more and more widely applied in construction,chemical industry,military and traffic domalins.the flammability of polymers and the flame retardant technologies attracted global attention.halogen sysem (especially for bromine system)and phosphorus system flame retardants have very perfect flame retardant effect,but they are quite expensive and are not environment friendly,so their usage is restricted in all countries.on the other hand ,high efficient ,strong smoke restraining,innocuous and harmless inorganic flame retardants like Mg(Oh)2 and Al(OH)3are more and more preferred by users.
Compared with Al(OH)3,except for the impact to environment ,on whith Mg(OH)2and Al(OH)3have equivalent impact ,Mg(OH)2has better performance than Al(OH)3for aspects of thermal reaction, decomposition temperature,applicable polymer,flame retardant capability ,smoke restraining ability and stabiliy in acid .the common magnesium hydroxide produced with general synthetic methods has big surface polarity and strong conglobation performance between particles and poor dispersion and compatibility in plastic ,which affected the development progress of magesium hydroxide as flame retardant .
